Placed in the middle of a grassy mound, the sculpture is rooted in the rich Iowa earth, blending with the trunks of the adjacent trees that are a prominent part of the site. The open interior space of the sculpture will frame a direct view of the Iowa State Capital building. A circular seat wall will enclose the mound. New sidewalks and decorative paving will radiate from the sculpture’s center. Plantings, benches, tables and the seat wall will establish a park space, where workers and visitors can sit and relax, eat lunch, or do work, thus becoming an active embodiment of the ideals of the site.

On the two open ends of the sculpture’s arms to the left and right, bronze letters will spell the words” Diligence”, and “Dignity”. Etched granite or cast bronze letters embedded in the mound border or seat walls will tell the specific story of Iowans’ renown for a strong work ethic, one passed from generation to generation through education and action.
